Big names make their mark on apartments
Designer apartments are the latest fashion, but whats in a name?
Designer labels swing from just about everything these days, from bags to mugs and even wallpaper. The latest designer homes to hit the market in Yorkshire are at The Place, on Harrogate Road in Alwoodley, Leeds, where Ben de Lisi has helped create one and two-bedroom properties.
Ben, who also designed a successful bathroom for Harrogate manufacturers Abacus, worked with developer Andrew Carnell, of Avenir Properties. Andrew says: "Using a fashion designer might not seem like the natural choice. but Ben has a fantastic eye and he has been incredibly hands-on at The Place. "He's been involved in the design of the building from the bricks and render to making best use of space, and he has come up with some fantastic ideas, while staying commercially aware. " He's constantly sketching in meetings and we have learnt a lot from him." De Lisi designed everything from the bespoke storage cabinets to the sales brochure. "My background is retail, so I'm aware of the benefit of a designer label, " says Andrew. " I think that translates to property, though I don't think developers have been quick enough to embrace it."
