Rawdon School Pupils’ Work Judged By International Fashion Designer Ben de Lisi 29/10/07
An international fashion designer who has created dresses for a host of Hollywood celebrities is the star judge of a competition for pupils at a Leeds primary school.
This Thursday (November 1) Ben de Lisi – the star of Project Catwalk and a judge in this year’s Miss World competition – will be at Littlemoor Primary School, Rawdon, casting his eye over the work of the four to 11 year olds. The school was invited by Harrogate-based Avenir Properties, which is converting the former Littlemoor school site into a luxury housing development, if the pupils would like to create their own designs, the best of which will be featured in a charity calendar and on hoardings outside the old school, on Harrogate Road. Because Avenir and Ben are working together on this project under the Space by Ben de Lisi label, school head Shelagh Henderson asked if he would like to be the judge. Mrs Henderson said: “We were delighted when Ben agreed to be the judge. It’s not often you get a top international fashion designer to judge the creativity of primary school children. We are all very excited indeed.”
The Littlemoor pupils have been spilt in different groups depending on age, and were asked to draw houses, gardens, eco-friendly homes and luxurious bedrooms. Avenir Properties sales manager Amanda Brayshaw said: “Over the last year we have built up an excellent relationship with Shelagh and Littlemoor School, and it’s just great that Ben was so willing to judge the competition. He will also be presenting the winners with their prizes.”
